RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual || Lesson 21 - Successful Parenting

RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual
Date: 20 January 2019
Lesson 21
Topic: Successful Parenting

Memory Verse: “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4

Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 2:12-17, 29-30 KJV
1 Samuel 2:12-17:
12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

1 Samuel 2:29-30:
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

INTRODUCTION:
Parents have the duty to raise their children in love. God expects parents to bring up children who will love Him, live for Him and make positive impacts I’m the world. Deut. 6:5-7. While there are different styles of parenting in the world, believers should note that successful parenting is achievable.

LESSON OUTLINES

    Different parenting styles
    God’s style of parenting

DIFFERENT PARENTING STYLES

PARENTING LOVE DISCIPLINE
STYLES

1. Permissive High Fearful

2. Uninvolved Low Low

3. Authoritarian Low High

4. Influential High High

FELLOWSHIP

1. Permissive Fearful

2. Uninvolved Forsaken

3. Authoritarian. Fighting

4. Influential Friendly

The Permissive Parents:

This types of parents may give verbal comments to their children, but will take little or no action to correct them when they misbehave. Such parents usually equate discipline with meanness. They give in to most of the desires of their children. Eli, the priest, and Samson’s parents are biblical examples of permissive parents. (1 Sam. 2:12-17: 29-30; Judges 13:1-2; 14:1-3).

The Uninvolved Parents:

Such parents are self-oriented and they neglect their responsibilities. They have little or no time to attend to their children but rather pursue other concerns of life like career, business, ministry, pleasure etc. They show little or no concern for well-being of their children and hardly communicate with them. King David and Samuels were examples. (1King 1:5-6; 2Sam. 2:14:28; 1Sam. 8:1-5)

The Authoritarianism Parents

They run home with authority (iron fist) Children in such home have no voice or input whatsoever. That are “to be seen and not to be heard”. An authoritarian parent will use anger and harsh discipline to keep control. This behaviour may frustrate or causes child to lose heart and lack self-esteem. (Col. 3:21)
King Saul was an example. (1 Sam. 20:30).

The Influential Parents

The parents combine love and discipline without compromising either. They have clear boundaries but also very loving.

Children brought up in such homes are usually happy capable and successful. Mordecai, the adoptive parent of Esther. (Esther 2:1-10), Timothy’s mother and grandmother (2Tim.1:5-7; 3:14-15) are examples of influential parents in the bible.

GOD’S STYLE OF PARENTING

God, as the father of all, has clearly shown us the example of how to successfully raise our children. We need to follow in His footsteps. The Father loves and wants us to be involved with His children (Jer. 31:3; John 15:15; 16:27). He communicates clear instructions for us to follow(Pro. 4:3-4).
He forgives and show mercy when we fail(Heb. 8:12). He disciplines and corrects us when we disobey and rebel against Him(Pro. 3:12; Heb.12:7).
The Father models the truth (John 13:15) He encourages and comforts us. (1Thess. 2:11-12). He protects us from harm. (Heb. 11:23). He provides for His children. (Ps. 78: 23-25; 2Cor. 12:14).

CONCLUSION
Parents need to be careful not to either be extremely legalistic or
permissive. God’s pattern of parenting is balanced by His love, affirmation and grace.

QUESTIONS

    Explain two parenting styles.
What lessons can we learn from God’s style?

Lesson 20
TOPIC: Love Dynamics in Marriage

MEMORY VERSE: “By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.” – Proverbs 25:15

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 2:18-25 KJV (RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 13 January 2019)

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Many marriages ate needlessly failing because the marriage partners lack the knowledge of relationship dynamics. Hosea 4:6. Most couples, sadly to say are ignorant on purpose. In this study, we will be looking at the scriptural principles and the love language that must characterize our marital relationships.

LESSON OUTLINES:

    SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES GUIDING MARRIAGE
    UNDERSTANDING THE “LOVE LANGUAGES”

1. SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES GUIDING MARRIAGE

Couples in marriage should understand that the image of God is best expressed in the combination of male and female (Gen.1:27). The God-designed differences between male and female are to be accepted as complimentary and not as competitive. (Gen.2:18). Marriage is not a human institution, it is divine.(Gen. 2:21-23). It is to be a relationship of companionship completion and communion (Gen.2:21-25; Matt.19: 5). Marriage was design designed by God to be a permanent, mutual and covenant relationship.(Matt. 19:6). God’s intent is for marriage to be an inestimable source of joy and fulfillment. In fact, marriage is a major part of God’s plan to bring redemption to human race. The environment of the marriage relationship provides the vehicle for the incarnation of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. (Gen. 3:15; 22:18; Ephesian 5:31-32).

2. UNDERSTANDING THE “LOVE LANGUAGES”

Many problems in marriage, usually occur due to the inability of the partners to understand each other’s love language. ‘Love language’ is Ann expression that makes you or your partner feel loved.

There are five primary love languages. They are:

i. Quality Time Together: Spending time with each other and talking without interruptions, going out and about, having fun together, celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, etc. Let courtship experience continue. (Gen.26:8).

ii. Acts of Service: Do things you know your spouse would like you do. For example cooking meals, helping each other especially in household chores, etc. (Eccl.4:9).

iii. Exchange of Gifts: Express your love for each other through giving/receiving of gifts no matter how small. (1 Sam.1:5; Prov.17:8).

iv. Words of Affirmation: Couples must be consistent in saying I love you, I am sorry,Thank you, You look nice in that dress etc. to each other. (Song of Solomon 1:15; 4:1,7).

v. Physical Touching: This is a way of communicating emotional love, e.g. holding hands, kissing, pecking, embracing, patting, necking, nibbling, sitting close to each other etc.(Gen.26:8; Song of Solomon 1:2).

CONCLUSION: Couples should discover and express to each other what they have discovered as their primary love language that they both enjoy.

QUESTIONS:

Mention at least 3 scriptural principles of marriage.
Identify the primary love languages needed in marriage.

ASSIGNMENT: Find out five (5) major differences between the scripture-based marital principles and the world/carnal-based marital principle.

TEXT REVIEW: GENESIS 2:18-25 “DIVINE SURGICAL OPERATION”

The mystery of togetherness in marriage is divine. This is the explained in the light of the following references:

i. God started it ” And God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him”. Gen.2:18.

ii. God recognized it “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof”. Gen.2:21.

iii. God performed the surgery and reconstructed the rib.”And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman”. Gen.2:22.

iv. God translated the bone to bones and flesh. Gen. 2:23a

v. The only assignment which Adam did in the process was to label the new creation by naming it and to accept it. “And Adam said…..,she shall be called a woman….shall cleave to his wife”. Gen.2:23-24.

vi. Both the man and the woman began to cohabit ( unity). They clave(unity). They were not ashamed (unity). Gen.2:24-25.

RCCG 2019 FORTY NINE DAYS FASTING & PRAYER GUIDE

THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD DIRECTORATE OF PRAYER
2019 FORTY NINE DAYS FASTING & PRAYER GUIDE

PREAMBLE: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon     thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Isaiah 60:1-4

We thank God for bringing us to year 2019 the year of His glory. We saw the glory ahead in the immediate year past, and as soon as we entered into the New Year 2019, we have begun swimming in glory. In the midst of so much turbulence in the past, God’s faithfulness to His promises remains steadfastly solid. This will forever be a rallying point for counting on His unfailing everlasting arms of  strength  by  which  we  can  boast;  “Our  help  in  ages  past  and  our  hope  for  the  years to come.”

From the above passage, it is certain that there had been a time of darkness and obscurity. But now the Lord has intervened as He usually does being a merciful Father. Today, whatever we are going through as a Nation and as an individual, are all known to God and He will undoubtedly intervene. all these are working out the purpose of God for our lives Rom. 8:28. However God is now calling us again to carry His light burdens in this 49 days fasting and prayers to move His finger against His enemies and His hands upon his Children to see prophesies fulfilled and swim in abundance of God’s Glory.
The following are some guidelines and prayer points that will be helpful during the period; from Friday 11th January to Thursday 28th  February, 2019. May you be blessed in the Name of Jesus.

Ministering Pastor E A Adeboye
Bless God's Holy name. He is worthy to be praised. Thank You Father. Glory be to Your holy name. Lift your voice to Him and say “Father, please give me a new year present today.”

Almighty God, the Unchangeable Changer, the One who always I am, we worship You.
Please accept our worship in Jesus' name.  Thank You for last year.
Prayer for January Born: Father, please give them priority. Please, let them come first in all they do. Let it be well with them.
The theme for the month of February is Swimming In Glory Part 2
Happy New Year to you all.
What does 'Happy New Year' mean to you?
It means different meaning to different people. To some, it means freedom, growth, marriage, childbirth, graduation, etc. To some other people, it means they are closer to death.
Happy New Year means we are a year closer to the end of our journey in life
1 Corinthians 15:51-53: Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1 Thessalonians 4:14-17:  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
A day is coming that the Lord Himself will descend with a shout; however, some people will sleep before then.
Daniel 12:2: And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
A day is coming that the dead will awake too.
This is a serious year. You shouldn't joke with this year at all.
My joy however as your father is that if you will hearken diligently to me as I take you through the word of God, by the time this year is ending, you will be sitting on the mountain top
Land is for man; sky for the bird; and water for the fish. So, swimming means operating in a realm that is not yours. David was an example of this in 1 Samuel 17:32-37.
Altar Call: The difference between Everlasting life and everlasting damnation is a matter of choice. If you haven't given your life to Christ, you can choose everlasting life now by accepting Jesus Christ. Thank You Savior for Your Word of salvation. Please save their souls and write their names in the book of life, receive them to Glory whenever You return. Thank You Father
Text: Isaiah 60:1-3 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
There are two word here: Swimming and Glory. Swimming means to make progress inside water
When you go to swim, You have gone to an area where God didn't initially create for you. However, you can make progress in an area where it's not originally meant for you.
Proverbs 3:35: The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
Glory is the opposite of shame. Glory in intrinsically associated with shining light.
Luke 2:9: And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
Psalms 24:7-10 The Almighty God is called the Lord of Glory, James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. He is also called the Father of light.
Ezekiel 43:2: And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. Light and Glory is the same thing. Consequently, Matthew 5:14-16, the new name Jesus gave us is Light. Light is useless unless it shines. Matthew 5:15. I decree into your life, you'll shine this year. The opposite of light is darkness. To shine means to push back darkness by force. Genesis 1:1-4. The battle between light and darkness has been from the beginning. Get ready to shine means to get ready to fight and Lord over darkness. You have played church long enough! The battle line is drawn. Get ready to fight darkness. Light has no use unless it shines. Many have been trying to win souls by mere talk, no way anymore. These guys will come when they see how you can deal with darkness.  Light has no use when it isn't shining. 1 Samuel 16:11-13, 1 Samuel 17:34-37, 1 Samuel 22:1-2. You will shine this year. Shining means you will fight darkness. You will fight lions, bears and Goliath. The fight you want to fight is a good one because you have won before you start the fight. 2 Timothy 4:7, Light has never lost to darkness. John 1:4-5, Romans.8:35-39 You are already more than a conqueror.
The only condition to winning is that you must never turn your back to the enemy. Luke 6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? By the grace of God, one of your prayers before this year ends will be, Father, wherever the Lions and the bears are, please bring them to me. The Lord said there's someone here today, you will begin to show signs of a genius. Swimming is to operate successfully in a realm that is not ordinarily yours. 1 Samuel 17:32-37. By the time you get home tonight, you will be a different person.
Prayer: In the mighty Name of Jesus, every drum of shame beaten in your life shall break tonight. All those who are plotting against your future, in the Name that is above every other name, they will be fighting themselves.
Swimming involves skill. To learn the skill of swimming, you need help: Zechariah 4:6: Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. There is someone ready to teach you how to swim. His Name is Jesus.
Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me
As the Lord lives, before the end of this year, when there is a crisis, you won't send for the GO, you will say they should come to you. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19, Matthew 14:17-21 &                   2 Corinthians 11:27: This is a year of serious prayers and serious fasting. I decree in the Name that is above every other name, where you never thought you will reach, you will surpass it this year. When you want to swim, the first thing you do is to change your dress & lifestyle. You don't swim with your suit on, Hebrew.12:1 Ephesians 4:22, Colossians 3:8-9 & Romans 13:12 You have to get rid of certain things if you want to swim. Ephesians 4:24-25 & 6:11-18 You'll have to wear your swimming gear to swim in Glory. No more running from the enemy because we are ready to face them. Satan is the one on the losing end. Jesus said He'll build His church. Is He a liar? No! The devil is the one at the losing ends, the gates who are the elders of hell cannot prevail against Jesus' Church.
