TOPIC: Knowing God’s In Marriage
 DATE: 16 DECEMBER 2018
MEMORY VERSE: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” – Proverbs 18:22
BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 24:1-19
1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7 The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
12 And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: Marriage is ordained by God and it is a legal relationship between a man and a woman that should last for a life time. Gen. 2:22-23.
The step taken before going into this journey is very important to prevent pitfalls. In knowing God’s will therefore, you do not have to rely vague feelings and strange rituals.
LESSON OUTLINES
  1. RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRST
  2. HOW DO WE RECOGNISE HIS WILL IN MARRIAGE?
1. RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRSTMarriage is a creation of God, it all started from Him(Gen. 2:18). God will only guide His own (Jeremiah 10:23). He will not play a guessing game with His people (1 Cor. 14:33). He wants us to know and do His will and He is actively involved in revealing it. Therefore, before seeking God’s will in marriage, develop a relationship with Him (Psalm 119:105,130). You must not live your life in fear but in fellowship with God (2 Tim. 1:7). Develop your God’s given gift and master how God deals with or guides your steps ( Psalm 85:8; 37:23). Discover your purpose through a relationship with Jesus Christ (John 18 :37). This will reduce stress, give your life meaning and prepare you for eternity (2 Peter 1:3-4). You must be found working in His vineyard like Adam and have a source of income (Gen. 2:15-18) because marriage is not for lazy people. Marriage is for matured adults, not juveniles.
2. HOW DO WE RECOGNISE HIS WILL IN MARRIAGE?The Scripture is clear about the fact that God does not His people to be joined with unbelievers in marriage (2 Cor. 6:14-17). How then do we recognise his will in marriage?
  1. Through the word of God. (Prov. 3:5-7)
God has placed His words in our hands so that we can have a more objective set of guidelines to follow than dreams, feelings and impulses. Despite your dreams and your conviction, pray to have spiritual backing. (Prov. 18:22; 19:14; Gen. 2:22).
  2. God will work in you to do His will. He will use circumstances and situations to perfect His will for your life.(Rom. 8:28; Phil. 2::12-13).
  3. Through the counsel from elders or spiritual heads in the church. (Psalm 1:1; Prov.19:21; 11:14; 15:22; Acts 1:24; Titus 2:3-5). Do not despise Godly counsel from spiritual heads. (Prov.14:29b; Isa. 52:12).
However, be careful of the following pitfalls:i. Passion for sex, peer/ parental pressure, age and poverty etc may influence your hasty decision or push you into marriage. Watch and pray to overcome temptations (Matt. 26:41)
ii. The environment you are in and the friend you keep may also influence your choice. Therefore, keep company with believers and not unbelievers (1 Cor. 15:33).
CONCLUSION: Prayer, pure word of God, worship, fellowship and service for God and right environment of good spiritual nourishment are factors that aid our spiritual sensitivity. As a child of God, you have His word, His spirit within you and His ministers to guide and counsel you.
QUESTIONS:
  1. Why have a relationship with God before marriage?
  2. How do you know God’s will in marriage?
ASSIGNMENT: Find out ten (10) attractions that could lead a person to choose a marriage partner outside the will of God.

TEXT REVIEW: GEN. 24:1-19 “MARRIAGE TO WRATH”i. The instruction to seek only God’s will for Isaac in marriage was followed by an oath. Gen. 24:2-3,8.
ii. In Isaac’s days it involved travelling to Mesopotamia from Canaan to the city of Major. Gen. 24 :10-11.
iii. Living in the land of Canaan did not translate to marrying the Canaanite. Abraham identified himself as a stranger Canaan. He said, ” I am a stranger and a sojourner with you”. Gen. 23:24, but thou, my servant shall go to my country and to my kindred, Gen. 24:4 and take a wife for my son, Isaac. Gen. 24:4.
iv. The effort of going out of Canaan to Nahor might look cumbersome especially in the light of verse 10 of Gen. 24, but if we consider the characters and spiritual dispositions of the Canaanite, we would prefer to follow the instruction. Psalm 106:38 indicates that blood of innocent sons and daughters were shed as sacrifice to Canaan’s idols. Sons and daughters were sacrificed to demons. Verse 37-38.
v. Canaanite represent ungodly people, therefore intermarriage with them might open the believers to the risk of mingling with the gentles. Psalm 106:35-36. Such attitude would surely attract the wrath of God. Psalm 106:40.
LESSON OUTLINE 1:
RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRST
i. God created/started marriage. Gen. 2:18.
ii. God will give right thing to His children who rely on Him. Her. 10:23.
iii. God does not do or allow guess game.
1 Cor. 14:33
iv. God reveals right path to His children who seek for guidance. Psalm 119:105.
v. God’s children must develop a relationship with Him first. Psalm 119:130.
vi. Believers must learn to fellowship with God and not fear. 2 Tim. 1:7.
vii. Believers must develop their God-given gift and watch their step.Psalm 85: 8; 37:23.
viii. Believers must develop their purpose through relationship with Jesus Christ. John 18:37.
ix. Discovering purpose will reduce stress and prepare one for eternity. 2 Peter 1:3-4.
x. Believers must work in God’s vineyard. They must also have source of income. Gen. 2:15-18.
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Why do some people marry outside God’s will?
LESSON OUTLINE 2:
HOW DO WE RECOGNISE HIS WILL IN MARRIAGE?
Since God does want His children to be joined with unbelievers in marriage, ( 2 Cro. 6:14-17) then, there must be specific guidelines to be followed as indicates below:
i. Discover His will through His word. Prov. 3:5-7. His word Israel and not shadow.
ii. Pray for God’s approval. Prov. 18:22; Gen. 19:14.
iii. Be sensitive and pay attention to those doors He opens and closes with regard to the issue of marriage. Phil. 2:12.
iv. God will use circumstances and situations to perfect His will. Phil. 2:13.
v. God reveals His will through the counsel from elders or spiritual heads in the church. Psalm 1:1; Pro.19:21; 11:14; 15:22; Acts 1:24; Titus 2:3-5.
vi. Believers should not despise Godly counsel from spiritual heads. Prov. 14:29b; Isa. 52:12.
vii. Avoid pressures from peer, passion for sex, age and poverty to be cloud your reasoning or influence your decision and lead you into temptation. Matt. 26:41.
viii. Keep company with believers and avoid company with unbelievers. 1 Cor. 15:33.
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Identify some consequences of making marital choice with God’s will.
SUMMARY: Believers must marry only God’s will.
CONCLUSION:
Prayer, pure word of God, worship, fellowship and service for God and right environment of good spiritual nourishment are factors that aid our spiritual sensitivity. As a child of God, you have His word, His spirit within you and His ministers to guide and counsel you.
EVALUATION:
How can believers know God’s will.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, let your will be done in marriages in our church.
ASSIGNMENT:

In today’s lesson, we shall attempt to guide Christians with genuine intentions on how to be practically involved in politics and avoid the pitfalls.

LESSON OUTLINES

How to be involved in politics
Things to watch out for in politics
HOW TO BE INVOLVED IN POLITICS
Christians should note that it is their civic right and responsibility under the law (Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-14) to vote and be voted for Deuteronomy 1:13. Therefore, every eligible Christian should register with the relevant electoral body in order to participate during elections. In addition, it is important for Christians to be ‘card carrying’ members of any political party of preference. By so doing, Christians can contest and be voted into elective positions or influence the choice of their representatives for elective positions (Exodus 18:21).To join a political party, you need to get information. Visit the websites of the parties available in your country or the respective party secretariat within your locality. Go through their detailed profiles to know the party’s ideology and manifesto. Fill a party registration form and provide supporting documents/payments as may be required. A membership card will be issued to you as confirmation. Attend party meetings regularly and actively in order to be a voice to be reckoned with.

Christians aspiring for elective leadership positions should be sure to have a leading, burden or passion to serve the people and solve problems (1 Samuel 17:29,34-37; Nehemiah 2:1-5). Christians may also prayerfully join or support an advocacy group (Esther 4:8,13-14) or form a political party with people of like-minds (1 Samuel 22:2, Daniel 2:49).

THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN POLITICS
Christians who are into politics, or aspiring to hold political posts, should be prayerful and watch out for pitfalls to avoid soiling their garments (1 Corinthians 15:33). They should therefore:

Desist from any thought or act of wickedness. Politics is not a do or die affair (Proverbs 16:12).
Avoid prayerlessness (James 5:16b-18, Psalm 91:15, Daniel 6:10). Our adversary is not resting, be sober and vigilant 1 Peter 5:8.
Shun all foolishness: get the necessary qualifications or experience (James 1:5; 1 Samuel 17:34-37) and act wisely (Matthew 10:16).
Never dabble into politics without a godly burden or passion Nehemiah 2:1-5.
Avoid compromise: stand by your godly virtues and principles 1 Corinthians 10:31). Distinguish yourself and do not be hypocritical 1 Corinthians 6:17; Romans 12:2).
Be resolute in the face of persecution and propaganda (Nehemiah 4:3,6; Nehemiah 6:5-7; Daniel 6:11-14).
Avoid abuse of power. Do not be tyrannical 2 Chronicles 26:16-18.
CONCLUSION:
Join a political party today and be a Christian of influence.

Text: Isaiah 65:19-24
And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
Why do we need to pray
1. Because the Spiritual controls the physical - Job didn't just into trouble until there was a discussion between God and Satan. - Joshua 6:20
2. It is because there is help - Psalm 121:1-2
3. Because God can direct help to you - 1 Kings 17:8-16
4. Because God knows you need help, He knows where help and he can directs help to you - Genesis 41:1-40
5. Because there are heights you cannot reach on your own -
Three Major possible Responses when we pray.
1. God could say when they call I will answer - Jeremiah 33:3, Isaiah 55:6-7
Psalm 50:14-15 Come with Thanksgiving and pay your vows.
2. God could have said Before they call I can answer - Acts 15:18, Exodus 15:22-25
3. God says before they call, I will answer - Psalm 103:8, Ephesians 2:4-5, Psalm 106:7-8
He will answer because:
You are a Child of God
You are his Branch
You are his Ambassador

And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
The name tonight is Ambassador - 2 Corinthians 5:20
The good thing about the name ambassador is that you represents your king and you have his full backing.
You are an ambassador of Kings of Kings.
The ambassador is secure - No one can arrest you in the residence of an ambassador.
From now on your residence is a forbidden zone for the devil.
There are two Kingdoms - Colossians 1:12-13
1. Kingdom of Light
2. Kingdom of Darkness. It has been like that from the beginning - Genesis 1:1-2
God separated light from darkness - Genesis 1:3. There will be a permanent separation between you and kingdom of darkness. Psalm 30:5
Sorrow and darkness goes together, Joy and light goes together
Which Ambassador are you?
Ambassador of kingdom of darkness
Ambassador of kingdom of Light
What do you expect if you are Ambassador of Satan:
No matter how anointed you are, you cannot deliver anyone who does not want to be delivered.
1. Satan uses people and humiliate them - I Kings 18:25-29
2. Satan uses people and discard them - 1 Samuel 17:1-51 He uses Goliath to terrorize a Nation for forty nights but immediately he fell down he discard him.
3. Satan uses people only to destroy their destiny - Acts 1:15-20 - Judas Iscariot ended up committing suicide.
What do you expect if you are God's Ambassador
1. God uses people and glorify them - 2 Kings 2:11-12
2. God uses people only to promote them - 2 Kings 2:12-15 From servant to Prophet
3. Even when you are discouraged, He will come to your rescue - 2 Kings 19:1-8

The Lord of host will Still every storm in your life
5. He will answer your prayers - 1 Kings 18:30-39
Some signs that might be telling you that you need deliverance:
1. The biggest sign that something is wrong is Fear - 1 Timothy 1:7, 1 John 4:18, - Fear is a tormentor.
2. Anxiety - Always worried - Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 30:5.
Your tomorrow is going to be alright
Confession: I will serve God with Joy because my tomorrow will be alright.
3. Self destructive habit
4. Disobedience - John 15:14, 1 Samuel 15:22-23.
What God expects of His Ambassador:
1. He expects His Ambassador to be His voice (witness) - Acts 1:8
2. He expects His Ambassador to set the captives free - Mark 16:16-18.
Reward for Ambassador of God:
There are many rewards for ambassador but I will only mention one:
An ambassador does not need to defend himself - Exodus 23:22.

Pastor E. A Adeboye Excerpts Sermon HGC Day Two: Glory Ahead || A Branch of the Life

2018 Holy Ghost Congress - Glory Ahead
Day 2 - 4th December, 2018
Topic: A Branch of the Life
Speaker: Pastor E. A. Adeboye
Number of Children Babies born (7) - 3 Boys and 4 Girls.
Text: John 15:1-5
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Basically the vine (Jesus Christ) is the combination of Divinity and Humanity.
John 1:1&14, Mathew 3:16-17, 8:20, Mark 4:35-41 - Humanity sleeps, Divinity never sleeps.
As the Divinity is, so is the branches - 1 John 4:17, Mark 6:30-32.
No matter how anointed a man of God is, he needs rest. 2 Peter 1:2-4.
The branch can do nothing without the Vine - John 15:5.
John 14:10 - Jesus did all he did through the father.
Philippians 4:13, 1 John 4:4 -
Who is that, that is in you?
John 14:6 - The Vine is life
Galatians 2:20. Revelation 12:10-11, John 10:10.
Whatever that is called Sickness, Disease, Germs or virus in your system may the blood of Jesus consume them. Romans 8:9-11, Mathew 8:1-3,Acts 3:1-8
If Christ is in you - His virtue and Power will flow through your vein - Ephesians 3:20, Mark 5:25-34, Acts 19:12.
Every branch of the Vine can do what the vine can do. You can imagine what will happen if two branches comes together to heal the sick - Mathew 18:19, Mark 16:17-18.
